The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a 45-year-old  ldris Aliyu of Daka’agi village in the Wushishi Local Government Area of the state for allegedly hacking his younger brother, Aliyu Aliyu, to death.

The suspect was arrested by a team of policemen attached to Wushishi Division following a tip-off.

It was learnt that the suspect and his deceased brother, who were farmers, had been living together in the same compound in peace other before the ugly incident.

The suspect borrowed the sum of N100,000 from his friend and gave it to his late brother to renovate his house in the same area.

He was said to have promised to pay back the lender after harvesting their farm products.

The suspect said, “Áfter the harvest, I explained to him the need to settle the person I borrowed the money from. He refused to listen to me and insisted that we were not going to sell any farm products to that effect.

He said the reaction angered him and he inflicted a deep cut in his neck which resulted in his death.

It was also revealed that the deceased was lying down on a bench listening to news on his transistor radio unknown to him that his elder brother had hatched the plan to kill him.

The suspect told our correspondent that he killed his brother due to pressure from the lender and the refusal of his brother to cooperate on how to pay back the debt.

The suspect who had two wives and 13 children said he regretted killing his brother.

“I’m finished. I’ve killed my only brother whose wife will give birth any moment from now. I am ruined,” Aliyu lamented.

The Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
