  • 8 home-based players for Falcons’ World Cup camp

Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby has included eight home-based players in his 27-man list for the final camp in Austria ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France, scheduled for June 7 to July 7.

The four goalkeepers for the final camping Tochukwu Oluehi (Rivers Angels),Alaba Jonathan (Bayelsa Queens),Chiamaka Nnadozie (Rivers Angels) and Christy Ohiaeriaku (Confluence Queens) are all home-based and would be joined by fellow NWFL players Chidinma Okeke (FC Robo), Evelyn Nwabuoku (Rivers Angels),Amarachi Okoronkwo (Nasarawa Amazons) and Rivers Angels striker Alice Ogebe.

Dennerby’s squad is also made up of 10 players from the Scandinavia, eight of them from Sweden, namely defenders Osinachi Ohale (Vaxjo),Josephine Chukwunonye (Kungsbacka), Faith Michael (Pitea IF), and midfielders Rita Chikwelu (Krstianstand),Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene (Eskiltuna United), Ogonna Chukwudi (Djurgardens), Halimatu Ayinde (Eskiltuna United) and striker Anam Imo (Malmo).

Norway-based duo Ngozi Ebere and Rasheedat Ajibade complete the players from the Scandinavia.

Regulars Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Desire Oparanozie also made the list, as well as Uchenna Kanu, who has shown tremendous firepower at the ongoing WAFU Women’s Cup in Abidjan with eight goals in two matches.

Nigeria’s final list of 23 players for the Women’s World Cup will emerge from this group of 27, with four players to be excluded from the final squad towards the end of the two-week camping in Austria.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s Head of Women Football, Ruth David, told thenff.com on Monday that the African champions would depart from Abuja for Austria on May 20 for the Avita Resort in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, the same facility where the Super Eagles had their final camping before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Super Falcons will depart from Austria on June 4 for Reims, where they open their World Cup campaign against Norway on June 8.
