Cost of diabetes care very, costly, exotic — Diabetes Association of Nigeria

DiabetesDiabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) has lamented that diabetes management is very costly as many poor patients are unable to afford diabetes medication and treatment.

National President of the association, Dr Mohammed Alkali, stated this on Wednesday while flagging off free medical outreach which included free diabetes test, treatment and counselling sponsored by the association to 1, 000 diabetics at Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State as part of activities marking this year’s World Diabetes Day.

He, however, decried that government at all levels neglect diabetes issues and other non-communicable diseases which he pointed out are more problematic.

In his lecture, a Consultant on diabetes at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi, Dr Sule Bathnna, advised diabetics to be eating balanced diets, foods with less sugar, moderately ripe fruits and at least 30 minutes exercise daily as ways of managing diabetes and healthy living.
