Nollywood Misrepresentation of Nigerian Nurses

NOLLYWOOD ARTISTS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC SHOULD HENCEFORTH TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Professional nurses are being misrepresented by Nigerian artists and film makers.

2. Not all in white uniforms are professionally registered nurses. What is shown as nurseís activities in the video films, soap operas and stage plays does not represent Nigerian nurses but the activities of quacks in the cottage hospitals they might have had contact with.

3, Nurses have no time to engage in mere gossips but we brainstorm with ourselves and other professionals to proffer solution to patientís problems. If you donít believe go to LUTH, UCH, LASUTH, UBTH and other reputable health institutions to catch a glimpse of how busy nurses really are.

4. Nurses donít sleep around with doctors because we both have different and busy schedules of duty which overwhelms us beyond mere bodily passion. There are laid down professional ethics and principles guiding moral and professional aspects of our profession.

5. Professional Nurses donít sit by the canter or desk, because we are not receptionists. We are ward managers that coordinates all the activities on the ward, especially issues concerning the patient's welfare. We are patients advocate, the angel on the wards and units.

6. Nursing is a globally recognized profession. Nurses are not messengers nor errand boys or girls to doctors as we are portrayed in your Nollywood films. Rather we are co-managers of patients and authorities on our own. In fact no hospital can experience optimal functioning without the co-ordination of patient-centered activities carried out by professionally trained nurses.

7. We renew our practicing license every three years after undergoing refresher courses. We also  update our knowledge to meet up with modern global standard of practice and acquire in-depth knowledge about patient's conditions and holistic interventions.

When called up into the profession as nurses, we take an oath and pledge which we are mandated to keep up to in the course of our professional practice.

NURSES ARE NOT JUST ANYBODY, WE ARE ANGELS IN DISGUISE. WE ARE SELECTED FEW CALLED TO SALVAGE HUMANITY FROM DISEASES, AND SICKNESSES.
WE ARE DEDICATED TO PROLONGING LIFE AND IF DEATH IS INEVITABLE, ENSURING A PEACEFUL DEATH.
