Before With… Foluke Daramola

What project shot you to the limelight?

Like I always say, fame came almost instantly with the first job I did which was a soap opera titled, ‘Palace’. So I shot into the limelight with my first appearance in the make-believe world. Even after I had bagged such a big role, I still went for auditions and in between, I was still going to school. It was not an easy period of my life but I was able to build my education and acting career together.

In what ways did stardom change you?

Stardom has changed me in a lot of ways. Normally, I am very good at snubbing people but now, I do not have a choice but to be nice and cordial to everyone. As a celebrity, we are seen as role models and a lot is expected of us; part of the expectation is friendliness. Also, fame has deprived me of my privacy; I cannot do anything without being noticed. Due to this, I don’t have a choice but to be conscious of what I do and where I go.

What were you into before you became a star?

I was in school. However, I returned to school and I intend to build my family, career, NGO and education together.

Are you still friends with people who were with you before stardom?

Yes, very much. My best friends are not part of Nollywood in any way. I have three very close friends; none of them is in my industry at all. The first one is a businesswoman, Mope Ajayi, the second is a banker, Yetunde Agarawu and the third is a beautician, Fareedah Sobowale.

How did you feel the first time you performed to an audience?

I was overly excited seeing myself on the television screen and to crown it all, it was a production I had wished to be a  part of. I was also a bit scared of acting with the bigwigs in the industry like Uncle Taiwo Obileye, Liz Benson, Jide Kosoko, .e.t.c. It was a really nice experience.

What do you hope to achieve with your stardom?

I intend to be someone like Oprah Winfrey. I hope to own my own television station and be an international talk show host.
