Offer my services for the post of Vice President of Nigerian Dental Association.

By Dr. Solomon Olusegun Nwhator

My teachers, colleagues, and Hippocratic siblings. Permit me to commiserate with the dental family on recent loss does among us. May God continue to protect us in Jesus name.
My name is Dr. Solomon Olusegun Nwhator, a 1992 graduate of our beloved Lagos Dental School. I have worked within Dentistry from my days as a student in my first year in Idi-araba as the class rep for Dentistry. With the encouragement and tutelage of Dr Babade and Dr Umesi, I became the Secretary General of the University of Lagos Association of Dental Students. I was part of the team that worked closely with  Col Osisanya, late Prof Savage (my late mentor), late Prof. Olusile,  Dr Orebanjo, Dr Olojede and now Dr Ijarogbe. I have served severally as Chairman, Products Committee, Secretary General NDA, Chairman Education and Practice Committee and Chairman Science and Research Committee. The Nigerian Dental Association has evolved over time but we are yet to breach the zenith of our dreams. Our young graduates are disillusioned and brain drain holds sway. Quackery is the order of the day as dental johesuites struggle to do  our jobs! Dentists are not yet primary providers in the NHIS  and the society is yet to feel our impact. Mere academic vituperation on social media CANNOT reverse the tide.  At this point in our professional lives as Dentists, we need humble, focussed and pragmatic leadership hence my decision to seek this mandate. At the state level, I worked acidously to commemorate the world oral health day and with the support of like minds, I was instrumental to the revival of Osun NMA. I currently teach undergraduate and postgraduate periodontics and double as the Physician in charge of the Dental Hospital in Ile-Ife. As we know in Periodontology, Host Derived Mediators of Inflammation (HDMI) cause greater damage than external microbiota. My approch would be to support the next President of NDA in promoting host cohesiveness while discouraging dysbiosis and unhealthy synergy. To this end,  I humbly offer my services for your consideration as the next Vice President of our dear Nigerian Dental Association.

As VP, working with the President, NDA, I will push for
*Realizing our worth
*Retraining the Nigerian Dentist.
*Refocussing on the nitty gritty
*Releasing  potentials of young Dentists
*Rebranding Dentistry
*Reaching for the jugular of quacks
*Rallying all and sundry to rethink Dentistry
* Records and accounting transperency
*Resting only when we reach our goal......

This we intend to achieve through *Constructive  engagement
*Courting the support of government
*Creating oral health awareness
*Creating confidence in Dentistry by a policy of  inclusion
*Consultation with elders
*Creating open accountability
* Contagious advocacy

This I intend to do working with the incoming President of NDA.

Thank you.
