It was gathered that Timothy, 37, bought a land at the said Annan Village from one Arit Johnson (now late) at N725,000.

A source in the village told Southern City News on Thursday that Timothy, who is a stranger to the community, observed all traditional rights and entitlements, adding that all the items purchased by the petitioner had been received by the appropriate quarters.

It was, however, gathered that trouble started when the buyer of the land, upon full payment of the required amount, started developing the site for his poultry farm and other farming activities.

It was learnt that Obot demanded 10 per cent of the sum (used to purchase the land), an amount he said the buyer would be paying on yearly basis.

It was gathered that when the land buyer (Timothy) could not yield to the demands, Obot began threatening to deal with him.

Sensing danger, Timothy was said to have reported the matter to some prominent members of the community, some of whom were members of the village council.

Obot was allegedly said to have violently stormed the poultry farm premises of Timothy on December 29, 2016, demanding for immediate payment of his claims.

Our correspondent learnt that on January 15, 2017, some suspected hoodlums led by three sons of the accused allegedly invaded the poultry farm, causing huge damage to property at the premises.

The attackers also allegedly carted away huge sums of money, livestock and other valuable items belonging to Timothy.

Police swung into action based on the petition of the victim, arrested the village head, who was later granted bail while the matter was charged to court.

The matter had been adjourned for hearing till April 26, 2018.
