Dealing With Bad Habits!

After my last post on habits last week Friday, I’ve gotten a couple of questions asking if I really think it is possible to break free from some habits. Some are of the opinion that ‘it is a cross which individuals must carry; after all we are not perfect’

Well, I may not know much, but I do know these – IS BREAKING FREE FROM BAD HABITS EASY? Not always.  IS IT POSSIBLE? Absolutely yes. Why yes? Because a lot of people have broken free, I have successfully stopped some bad habits and I believe anyone can.

So, I assume you already know that we all have bad habits in varying proportion. Some have less, others have much; some irritating, others amusing. In any case you must have listed out (on your own accord and with others’ comment) some of those pretty bad habits of yours.

So how do you deal with them?
👉🏽Recognise and accept the habit(s) as bad.

👉🏽You must be willing to let them go. I discovered some people are really still ‘enjoying’ the bad habits, in which case, breaking free could be difficult if not impossible. Remember what Eisenhower said, “The history of free men is written not by chance but by choice, their choice.” In other words, choose to be free.

👉🏽Highlight what the bad habits have caused you in time past( embarrassment, loss of job, relationship, money or other opportunities) and let that motivate you to quit.

👉🏽Begin to take relevant action. For you, it may be buying an alarm clock, waking up at a certain period, enrolling in a gym etc.

👉🏽Understand that you may not be able to break free from the habit once, it may be gradual.

👉🏽If you suffer a relapse, it is not abnormal, but never stop making efforts because you found yourself in the habit again. Get up and keep going and remember that sometimes you win and sometimes you learn.

👉🏽Get others involved, when you make yourself accountable, such people would call your attention when they see you romancing the habit again.

👉🏽Celebrate your success stories in your quest to break free.

👉🏽ALWAYS ask GOD for help on a daily basis. He alone is our source of strength.

Someone may ask, all these things you have written, are they that easy and simple? Sincerely, most of the time, the answer is no. Habits are hard to break and it generally takes between 18 and 254 days to achieve success. And yes, it is worth the efforts because your life, career, ministry, and inter-personal relationships would be better for it.

Friends, as I welcome you to June 2018 and wish you a fruitful month, be reminded that your success in life is assured if you obey simple principles. I am ADEYEMI, Raphael Oluwamayowa and I urge you to do all you should, so we meet at the topmost top. © #SYNERGY# 2018.
