The Fountain of Youth Resveratrol & Anti-Aging
Resveratrol is lately becoming the most popular health ingredient in many products. Right after popular media gave Resveratrol the popularity boost it needed to be recognized by the general public, pharmaceutical companies and health product manufacturers have released their own brands of anti-aging supplements made of Resveratrol. Not all products claiming to be Resveratrol supplements are authentic. In fact, watch out for those that claim to be the fountain of youth or the elixir of life.
So, is the claim that Resveratrol is actually the fountain of youth false? Resveratrol may not be able to make you live to 125 years, but this natural compound sure is powerful enough to help you defy the signs of aging (such as wrinkles) and help you live a longer and healthier life. This means that taking in Resveratrol supplements may not be worthless after all because Resveratrol definitely offers a lot of healthy benefits, or at least all the research up to this point indicates so.
Our bodies are at a constant risk to harmful elements and foreign substances that easily find their way in through the food we eat, water we drink, and even the air we breathe. The cells of the body and our DNA, most especially, are always exposed to possible damage brought about by free radicals that can cause abnormalities such as cancers. Resveratrol works together with other vitamins and minerals to fight free radicals and shield the cells and the DNA from damage. This is what experts call synergy.
Resveratrol is also believed to be of great help in improving the function of the mitochondria, where energy in the cells is stored and released for everyday use. As we become older, the number of mitochondria in the cells becomes lesser. This serves as an explanation for many of the elderly who become weaker as they age, even though they do not suffer from any kind of disease. With the regular intake of Resveratrol supplements, mitochondria are always created, thus making more storage for the energy you need for your daily physical and mental activities.
A study conducted by a team of Harvard Medical School experts led by pathologist Dr. David Sinclair shows that Resveratrol also has the power to activate the sirtuin genes. Sirtuins are a family of genes that are responsible for regulating the aging process in a human being. The effect of Resveratrol on sirtuins has profound implications on the future prevention or cure of aging-related diseases like diabetes, heart ailments, cancer, osteoporosis, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Many studies have already been conducted on the health benefits of Resveratrol, but this compound is still relatively young. It is definitely something to look out for and may be, in fact, the next big discovery in medical science, according to many researchers. As early as the present, though, scientists and experts have already attested to the anti-aging benefits of Resveratrol and are looking forward to more discoveries about this compound.
