Remembering Numbers
Numbers are often difficult to remember because they are abstract and don’t seem to be attached to any particular ‘meaning’. For example, suppose you are invited to a party at 1328 Johnson Street.  You have never seen the number before, and at first glance it means nothing to you, other than a street number.
There are three ways you can fix the number in your memory, and all of them involve ‘attaching’ it to something else.
The first way is to use sound. Try saying the number to yourself several times as “thirteen twenty eight” so that you can hear the numbers – in a singsong voice can often work!  It doesn’t need to be out aloud, silently will do.
The second way for improving memory of numbers, which you can use in conjunction with the first, is to picture a door or letterbox in your mind, and visualise the number “1328” written on the door or letterbox in large, bold numerals.  Imagine yourself walking up to the house and seeing the number in front of you.
The third way of improving memory is to associate the number with something that has personal meaning to you.  Perhaps you have 2 vivid memories of things that happened to you when you were 13 and 28 years of age, or perhaps you have two children aged 13 and 28.  Anything will do, as long as it has a strong meaning for you.  It only takes a few seconds to make the mental ‘attachment’ and you won’t have any problems turning up to the right address!
