Sowore for president 2019 update
« on: August 02, 2018, 11:21:32 AM »

Full Name: Omoyele Sowore.
Date of Birth: February 16, 1971, Niger Delta.
Origin: Ondo State.
Nationality: Nigerian
Occupation(s): Blogger, Writer, Lecturer, Human rights activist.
Years active: 2006 – present.
Twitter: @yelesowore
Website: SaharaReporters.com

Omoyele Sowore is a human rights and pro-democracy campaigner. He is founder and publisher of the much-cited SaharaReporters.com, website of citizen journalism, supplying videos, photos, news stories and commentaries that expose official corruption and abuse in Nigeria’s government.

Mr. Sowore is an indigene of Ondo State in South West Nigeria. He was born on February 16, 1971 in the Niger Delta region of the country where he was also raised. He studied geography and planning at the University of Lagos and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Colombia University. He teaches Modern African History at the City University of New York and Post Colonial African History at the School of Art, New York.

While in the University of Lagos, he was deeply involved in anti – military demonstrations and student unionism which ultimately culminated in his election as the President of the Student Union Government where he served between 1992-1994. His activism began in 1989, when he took part in student demonstrations protesting the conditions of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan of $120 million to be used for a Nigerian oil pipeline — the IMF loan conditions were to reduce the number of universities in the country from 28 to just 5.

In 1992 at University of Lagos, Sowore led 2,000 students in protest against Nigeria’s notorious kleptocracy. Police opened fire, killing seven. Sowore was arrested, interrogated and beaten, and later found out his family too had been put under pressure. But he refused to back down in the struggle for decent education in his country. He was an active participant in the June 12 pro-democracy struggle.

For his vociferous anti – government campaigns, he was harassed, arrested and detained for about 8 times in various detention centers. He almost lost his life in Abacha ‘ s gulag. Since that tragic baptism of fire, Sowore has remained consistent in his struggle to emancipate his country from the clutches of the racketeers and plunderers. He fled the country to the United States in 1999 from where he has continued to launch his anti – corruption missiles against the corrupt Nigerian ruling class using his website – SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters, the scion of the Nigerian establishment and nemesis of the corrupt, was birthed in 2005 but became operative from 2006. It is supported by grants donated by the Ford Foundation and Omidyar Foundation. As part of its policy, the medium does not accept adverts and financial support from the Nigerian government.

Omoyele Sowore represents different things to different people depending on ones social, economic and political leaning. To the corrupt politicians, the ruling class and their paid and unpaid apologists, Sowore is a tool in the hands of the opposition – a wild, unsubstantiated and indefensible charge that is yet to be proven with cogent and verifiable evidence. However, to the incorruptible and liberated victims of misrule, corruption and dictatorship, he represents the audacious candle that brightens the scars inflicted on the soul of our nation.

Like other conscientious activists, Sowore has suffered myraids of mundane lacerations and mischievous recriminations. He has lived with vain, unabated and hate inspired labelling, principal of which are that he is; a rouble rouser, an attention seeking activist, blackmailer, opposition propagandist, etcetera. Despite this seeming desperation by his adversaries, he remains unperturbed. At the risk of being accused of engaging in sanctimonious glorification of Mr. Sowore, I dare say that he is a respectable part of the microscopic cast of mind that constitutes the ‘Conscience of the Nigerian Nation’.

How can we expect a man whose medium endangers the monstrous elements ravaging our collective patrimony and aspirations to be live without enemies and attacks? How can we expect those whose murderous, scandalous and criminal activities have been exposed by SaharaReporters to wish Omoyele Sowore well? Such expectation can only be induced by crass naivety. Indeed, if it were possible, our successive government would have silenced him for taking them to the cleaners.

It was SaharaReporters that forced an associate of convicted ex Delta State governor Mr. James Ibori, Emmanuel Enaboifo, out of his exalted position as finance director of a bi-national commission that oversees the oil-rich zone owned by Nigeria and Sao Tome & Principe. No sooner had the Nigerian President appointed Mr. Enaboifo to the post than Sowore unmasked him as a fugitive who fled the United States, after a U.S. District Court convicted him of bank fraud. Two weeks after the publication, Mr. Enaboifo stepped down.

Earlier in January 2008, the site exposed Mrs. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, a former senator and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a hunted fugitive wanted in the U.S. over a child custody case. Even former head of Nigeria’s anti-corruption organization, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, did not escape Mr. Sowore’s searchlight. In series of articles, mostly backed by documentary evidence, he accused her of pilfering her agency’s funds and receiving bribes from governors and ministers, in exchange for ignoring their own looting of public funds. In the end, she was fired with corruption offered as one of the reasons.

Two events occurred yesterday. One even happened earlier than the other.

1. Omoyele Sowore and over 10 younger Presidential Aspirants met in Abuja to discuss how to form a United Front towards 2019 Elections which has been the request of most progressive young persons in Nigeria.

2. Saraki defected to PDP.

Guess what?
The Media reported the second and ignored the first as if it never happened.
This fourth estate (Press) should be the 'inter- *media*- ry between the Government and the People. What we have today especially in Nigeria are Governments' PR Stations who are only interested in getting adverts from the highest bidder and nothing more.
Except for the non-conventionals, do you know of any Media House that is not owned by a Politician or his allies?

We need to take back our Media and make it work for us, the people!

When this movement kickstarted, even the few that were aware never saw anything meaningful in it, with many with the opinion that in few months away the noise of Sowore and the few supporters will no longer be heard again and he will be deserted .
But contrary to those opinions, the momentum and awareness is gaining more ground on daily basis.
Sowore is already on high pedestra of "no retreat, no surrender". He's already being seen as a threat to the "big fishes" controlling the affairs of this nation and who still want to continue morgaging the future of this great nation. But as the awareness of Sowore continue to be intense, the younger generations of this nation want to put those old irrelevant and greed, analogue, insensitive politians into extinct.
My support continue to go to Sowore 2019.

SOWORE 10 POINT MANIFESTO.
« Reply #7 on: August 04, 2018, 05:45:40 AM »
“SPICER HEAT”-SOWORE 10 POINT MANIFESTO.

Comrade Omoyele Sowore, 2019 General Elections Presidential Candidate and Publisher of SaharaReporters, unfolded his 10-point manifesto (Agenda), otherwise known as “SPICER HEAT”, to Nigerians while on set the African Independent Television programme, Kakaaki on State of the Nation: 2019 Elections And The Youth.

SPICER HEAT, simply captures all the sectors that his administration will focus to build and transform Nigeria to her rightful status amongst committee of nations.

Security. Urgently address Farmer-Herdsmen crisis through ranching and increased policing, tackling of the Boko Haram terrorists through prosecution of anti-terrorist campaign and revitalization of the Northern Nigeria agro-based economy and the legislation to provide for State policing to combat other criminal activities ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery and others.

Power. Hence, his administration will be driven on Industrialisation, the will be massive expansion of the nation Power capacity from generation, transmission, distribution to 24,000mega watts.
Energy mix to include solar, wind, biogas and coal. And the decentralisation of power infrastructure development.

Infrastructure. Movement of people, goods and services are key to achieving our industrialisation plans and as such, 200,000km of new roads, doubling Nigeria current level will be built. 3,700km new rail system to be constructed to enhance connection to markets and region. The administration will build additional 17million new homes by providing 20-30years mortgage support to Nigerian households.
We’ll also increase portable drinking water supply by 3.4billion gallons per day and sewage capacity.

Corruption. The anti-corruption fight will be pursue with vigor and holistic approach with no sacred cow irrespective of your affiliations, and associations. Strengthening of the whistle blowing policy. Push for life ban of convicted corrupt officials from politics and eventually striping all those convicted of national honours.

Economy. Nigeria economy will be predicated on micro and macro approach, to be driven by sound monetary policies and job creation. About 5million jobs will be provided to reducing unemployment by about 30% from current levels of 18million.
2.744,000 agricultural sector jobs by training and enabling 1,000 youth entrepreneurs 9hin each of the 774 Local Government Areas.
160,000 new primary Healthcare jobs – 200 in each Local Government.
200,000 new teaching jobs for young graduates across the country.
250,000 new jobs in commercial ranches linked to resolution of Farmers-Herdsmen crisis.
Pay all Federal workers a minimum wage of N100k per month-about 600,000 of the almost 900,000 Federal workers will benefit.
Pay all Youth Corps members a minimum wage of N50k/month during their service year.
Facilitate access to affordable loans for entrepreneurs and business persons with very low interest rates.
Creation of a Bureau reporting to the Presidency to support and advocate for small businesses.
Promote growth of world class information technology sector through creation of innovation hubs with preferential access to power, people and enabling policy.

Restructuring. Nigeria, can only work and grow through restructuring. Hence, to create a Presidential committee to harmonise reports from constitutional conferences held in the last 40years.
To support restructuring proposals that a) devolves power to the States and Local Government.
b) allows for local units to keep more of the resources generated in their regions.
c) recognised the need for communal based policing and law enforcement and placing harmonise positions before the Nigerian people in a referendum.

Healthcare. A healthy people begets a wealthy nation. Consequently, we’ll expand Primary Healthcare resources with 160,000 new personnel across the 774 Local Government Areas, provide for Universal Health Insurance Scheme coverage to allow minimum N2,000 basic coverage for all Nigerians-allowing access to up to N40,000 of healthcare per annum.
Enhance private public partnerships in the healthcare delivery at community level.

Education. As the bed rock and key to technological advancement, 200,000 new teachers will be employed for Primary and Secondary level, with increase funding for research in agriculture. IT, engineering and sciences. Integrating the Almajirai Schools in the North into formal educational sector and enforce minimum standards for resources, teacher quality and curriculum standardization across all primary and secondary schools.

Agriculture. Hence, to diversify the Nigeria mono-economy, they shall be concerted efforts to move away from subsistence agriculture to mechanised and provides incentives to farmers to boast production for local and export markets.
Ranching will be encouraged and loans provided with very low interest rates to farmers and herdsmen’s as panacea for peaceful co-existence.

And finally, Tourism, which is a major revenue generation will be encouraged and regions supported to develop on their cooperative advantages to attract both local and foreign tourists.
