A resident, who spoke under anonymity said Omowunmi suddenly developed a strange sickness during the week and had to be rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he later died on Saturday evening.

His death sparked outrage as some youths in the town suspected a foul play. They suspected that his opponent had a hand in his death and invaded his home in an attempt to burn down the property.

The early arrival of the police was said to have saved the situation from degenerating into a full-blown communal crisis as the man and his family were whisked away to safety.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the violence and the arrest of the 20 persons.

He said full scale investigation had commenced into the incident, adding that normalcy had returned to the town.
