GOLDEN MOMENT OF INSPIRATION

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
Robert Townsend wrote,

"How do you sport a leader?
They come in all ages, shapes, and conditions. Some are poor administrators, and some are not overly bright. One clue: the true leader can be recognised because somehow his people consistently turn in superior performance."

1. Leadership is about inspiring people to get results. Effectiveness in  leadership is about the achievements of the people.

Andrew Carnegie, the great steel magnate, always reiterated that,

" I'm not in the business of making steel. I'm in the business of making men. Men make steel."

That probably sums up the idea.

2. You do not have to be a pilot to run a successful airline, or become a reputable politician to propell a poor nation into greatness. You do need the ability to spot talented people, plus the capacity to inspire confidence and direction in the people.

3. The good leader strives to bring the best in his people. He bends their mind to embrace the business of achievements, even if the process doesn't feel good. This is precisely why Tom Landry asserted that,

"The job of a football coach is to make men do what they don't like to do, in order to achieve what they've always wanted to be."

4. Leadership is inseparable from performance, the outcome of all activities. He will never achieve greatness unless his people keep making the grade. Arnold H. Glasow said that,

" The world expect results. Don't tell about the labour pains. Show them the baby."

5. We know that it's by far more important to know where you are going than to get there quickly; running rapidly along the rungs of a ladder is foolish if you are not sure it's leaning against the right wall.

Hence, the chief responsibilities of the leader consist of the vision of the destination, the assemblage of the right team, getting the navigation right, and motivating ceaseless acceleration until arrival.

This is the bit I carry the capacity to send today.

Tomorrow, we continue with the next bit, the next set of GOLDEN NUGGETS!

Until then, this is your friend, and fellow passenger, along the path to personal progress and happiness.

Abib Olamitoye.

Please,
Be of good cheer.
Be happy.
Be fulfilled.
Be grateful.
Be blessed.
