WHAT IS STROKE?*

Stroke, also known in medical parlance as *Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)* is when a part of the brain loses its blood supply and the affected part (which the blood-deprived brain cell control) stops working and results to a sudden case of neurological impairment such as weaknesses (paralysis, mostly on one side of the body) numbness, visual loss, imbalance, dysathria, language dysfunction etc. This implies that, if someone loses some or all blood supply to a certain part of the brain, then, the person will lose some or all functions performed by the affected part of the brain.

*Next week:* We shall be discussing the types of stroke.
