The merger between Exxon and Mobil Corporation in December 1999 brought together three major companies in Nigeria. Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EENL), Mobil Oil Nigeria plc (MON) and Mobil Production Nigeria Unlimited (MON). the three companies have notable history, proven experience and a strong record of contributions to Nigeria’s development, which were pooled together for improved performance. The three companies combined have over 2,000 employees, with over 90 percent being Nigeria.

Mobil Producing Nigeria operates a Joint Venture with the Federal Government of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, and is one of the largest oil producers in Nigeria.

Mobil Oil Nigeria is one of the six major petroleum products marketers in the Country. It currently has over 200 retail outlets located in all 36states of Nigeria.

Mobil is respected in the industry for its ethics adherence to safety, health and environment standards. It also plays the role in the promotion  and sharing of best practices in the downstream sector of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. MON plc owns three plants located in Apapa, Lagos State, that manufacture lubes, petroleum jelly, and insecticide. Its ultra-modern lube oil plant, with a capacity of 450,000 barrels per annum is regarded as one of the most sophisticated in Africa.
